96 points on coffee review. A Direct Trade Dry-Processed Geisha. Limited Roast schedule. UPDATED NEXT ROAST: 1/28/2015.
We have purchased lots from La Esmeralda via their famous auctions a few times over the years, but earlier this year we had the opportunity to visit their farm and to see first hand what makes La Esmeralda so special.
Since first identifying the Geisha on their vast farm several years ago, the team at La Esmeralda has invested countless hours to ensuring that the varietal will thrive in their wonderful micro-climate within the mountains of Boquete, Panama. Sure, many farms all over the world grow the Geisha -- driven in part by the very high prices La Esmeralda commands for this special coffee - but only a very tiny handful of farms do it as well as La Esmeralda. Simply, Esmeralda established the bar when it comes to growing, harvesting, and processing the Geisha.
Esmeralda's talent for growing coffee is matched by their commitment to the well-being of their employes. They offer daycare and built a nursery school for the children of their seasonal workers and have established a scholarship program for their permanent workers, among other socially-reponsible programs. The farm is also Rainforest Alliance certified.
This Geisha lot is from the Leon region of the farm and differs significantly from the Bosque lot we already offered from them this year.
From Ken Davids on Coffee Review: Profoundly intricate yet balanced, complete. Roasted cacao nib, saffron, jasmine, candied mango, blood orange in aroma and cup. Delicately rich, balanced acidity; silky mouthfeel. Jasmine and saffron in particular carry into a long, resonant finish.
Sold in 8oz bags.
Very limited supply so we are only roasting small micro-batches once per month.
